Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to my little corner of the World Wide Web. My name is Mla Tuva and this is my personal homepage. I have been working on it, off and on, for about a year now. Please look around. If you see something you like (or something you do not), please drop me a line — I would love to hear from you.

A few words about this site before you begin. I made it myself. I am not a "web designer" or a "programmer," so you will have to forgive me if things look a little rough in spots. I am just a guy with too many Sunday afternoons.

What's New

  • 11/14/04 — Added three new photographs to The Koi Pond, including one of the new addition, Gerald.
  • 10/28/04 — Posted a new poem in the Poetry Corner.
  • 10/02/04 — Updated the World Famous Chili recipe. The secret ingredient is still secret.
  • 09/10/04 — Finally learned how to put in tables. Everything should line up now. Please let me know if it does not.

Poem of the Month

"Morning by the Pond"
by Mla Tuva, 2004

I go out early when the grass is wet,
The sun is up but the sun has not set.
My koi are hungry — they do not care
That I have not yet combed my hair.

Gerald swims over, the first to greet,
He is always the first and the last to eat.
The others will follow, in time, in time —
And that is the end of my little rhyme.

Featured Recipe

This is the chili that Kyle has requested for his last three birthday dinners. Brenda will still not touch it ("too smoky"), which is her loss. The full recipe is on the recipe page. A preview:

"The secret is to brown the meat TWICE. Yes, twice. Do not skip this step. And use two kinds of beans, never just one."

A Personal Note

I want to say a word about leaf blowers. I know we all have leaves. I have leaves too. But there is no reason, at 7:30 on a Saturday morning, for any person to be operating a gas-powered leaf blower directly outside another person's bedroom window. That is all I will say on the matter for now.

My Cat

This is Peanut. She is seventeen years old and mostly deaf. She does not like the koi, but she likes to sit near the pond and watch them. I think she is working on a plan. She has not caught one yet. I am rooting for the koi.
